FAQ
Clinical Use

Can patients use Bonvadis® once per day?

The recommended application frequency is twice per day. However, based on the physician’s clinical judgment, once-daily use is also acceptable and supported by real-world prescriptions.

How long is the course of treatment? How many tubes do I need to use?

~1 tube heals smaller or less complex ulcers in 2-4 weeks. 2 to 3 tubes can heal hard-to-heal ulcers in 8 to 12 weeks.

When should I start using Bonvadis®?

After correction of etiological factors (e.g., ischemia, infection) and sharp debridement, Bonvadis® can be applied to promote healing.

Can Bonvadis® be used with foam or other dressings?

Yes, it is compatible with various outer dressings such as foam, gauze, hydrocolloid, and hydrofiber dressings. Patients should follow physician’s prescriptions.

Is it possible to use Bonvadis® alongside other treatments for a synergistic effect? Also, can it be combined with other topical treatments such as antibiotics, and if so, is there a required time gap between applications?

Yes. Bonvadis® demonstrates strong efficacy as monotherapy after debridement and can be combined with other wound management modalities. Examples include:
1. NPWT (Negative Pressure Wound Therapy): Concurrent use enhances wound closure speed.
2. Topical antibiotics: Generally not recommended for DFUs per international guidelines, but if used, should not be applied simultaneously with Bonvadis® to avoid interference.

Can Bonvadis® be used with NPWT (Negative Pressure Wound Therapy)?

Yes. Clinical cases have shown faster wound bed preparation and healing when Bonvadis® is used concurrently with NPWT. It’s also helpful before skin grafts.

Indications & Patients

Are there any contraindications with other therapies?

Bonvadis® is generally compatible with other therapies such as antibiotics, HBOT, NPWT, skin substitutes, skin grafts, etc., though it is advised to avoid the simultaneous use of other topical agents.

Can Bonvadis® be used for infected diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs)?

Yes. Bonvadis® is effective even in infected DFUs (IDSA 2/3), especially when combined with antibiotics. Real-world data shows Bonvadis® can be used earlier than other therapies and demonstrates significant improvement in healing rate.

Can we use Bonvadis® in poorly controlled diabetes patients (HbA1c > 9%)?

Yes. Clinical trials and real-world studies show that Bonvadis® is effective even when HbA1c levels exceed 9%.

Can we use Bonvadis® in osteomyelitis patients?

Yes, Bonvadis® can be applied after osteomyelitis tissue or bone is surgically removed.

Can Bonvadis® be used on wounds with exposed tendon or bone?

Yes. Bonvadis® has shown effectiveness in healing deep ulcers, including those with tendon or bone exposure, when used alone or with adjunctive therapies.

Can Bonvadis® be used on wounds present with biofilm?

Yes, it would be much effective if biofilm is removed by debridement before applying Bonvadis® Topical Cream.

What should be avoided when using Bonvadis® (e.g., Povidone-Iodine, Hydrogen Peroxide)?

The mechanism of Bonvadis® is to regulate the wound immune environment but Povidone-Iodine or Hydrogen Peroxide will interrupt the immune environment and hinder granulation.
